my dearest thanks to the lovely
poeticdream, who right now is guest-hosting my show on WRFR since I had to make up time at work. I love you babe, and today you truly are "the voice of WRFR" (how many hours have you been there today? 6? 7?

Live and Direct episode #6 is up. I attended the protest on Sunday and interviewed locals about activism and protesting, specifically regarding the ongoing war and the Bush administration's intent.
as
poeticdream said, I asked for callers and I seem to have gotten "the only pro-Bush Republican in Maine". Her quotes are priceless (for instance, I'm not sure how I'll see how great of a president Bush was after we've all been bombed to death...)
Here's the full quote from the caller:

Here's the full quote from the caller:
I'm a Republican, and I think George Bush is the best president we've ever had, and this is all just a bunch of crap.
Let me just say: George Bush is only against slackers and sinners and terrorists, so if you don't like him, which one of the three are you?
Twenty years from now when they blow us all up, you'll remember that, and you'll say George Bush was a good president.

Live and Direct #2, "Auddities", is ready for you to get your hot little hands on. It weighs in at 62.5MB and clocks in at 1:08:15. "Auddities" = "audio" + "oddities". These run the gamut from odd sounds to unusual production techniques to strange content.

Live and Direct #2 ("Auddities") did not quite go off without a hitch. LD2 in fact, did not go off at all, unless you want to count the first 5 minutes or so of introduction. The short story? Possibly a bad mixer, possibly user error and misconfiguration. It seemed to be an intermittent problem, which is always annoying as hell to diagnose. I know how to make sure it works now, and I'll give it another try next wednesday at 6. My apologies to anyone listening tonight.

I just re-encoded my first show as a 22KHz MP3, making it 49.4MB (roughly half the size it was at first); I apologize if that's still too big for some people to download. Thanks for listening!
EDIT:
ravenstar poked and prodded me, and now there's a podcast, so go subscribe to it in itunes or odeo or whatever the cool kids are using these days.

I had my first show today! It went well minus a little technical difficulty (dead air == bad). Thanks to my dad for recording the stream so I could easily convert it to mp3 and upload it for your downloading and listening pleasure. check it out here: Live and Direct #1 (74.1MB, 53:57).
It features my introduction, a song by Enigma, and a speech by Terence McKenna entitled "Culture and Ideology are not Your Friends". It's dedicated to
abigail_m, with a little surprise from her at the end.
As soon as I figure out how to do it, a podcast feed will be available. I will also work on reducing the file size for quicker downloads. Thanks for listening, and please share your thoughts.

due to home restoration issues (*cough*grease fire*cough*) and time/todo conflicts, i am skeptical about my first wrfr show happening this week. this pisses me off, especially in light of my recent announcement.
it might happen if i get insomniac tonight or tomorrow, though. here's hoping i can't sleep!

oh, and like a day almost a year ago, today is also a good day because
abigail_m finished a fruitcake (thank you robin for seeing it, you rock!)
- cleaned up my office at work (finally);
- got a refund on the boston museum of science tickets to see the body worlds show... we'll just have to find a time to go to boston before it ends in january;
- made an appointment with my audiologist to get an audio input cord and try a bluetooth audio input dongle (i'm going to have a dongle on my hearing aid... woot!);
- got
nana36921's sim card shipped so she can have a cell phone (did i mention, t-mobile's customer service is the best?); - interviewed with the station manager at wrfr: i have a radio show scheduled to start in january (i just have to get rid of this cough first): Live and Direct, 6pm, Wednesday nights... more info here as i know it;
- and thusly, contacted dennis mckenna (!) (brother and collaborator of the late terence mckenna) to request permission to broadcast terence's lectures and recordings of him speaking on the radio. we had a long, intelligent, two-way conversation in which i, surprisingly, did not go all otaku fanboy on him and uncontrollably blurt "OMG you and terence are soooo cooooooool and i've always wanted to talk to you!" so, that's good. you know, restraint and all... instead, i talked to him about his research and his and terence's experiences and the social implications of them. i even managed to bring up ormus stuff without sounding like a complete nutcase, and make the case that it could plausibly even be related to endogenous neurotransmitting effects of dmt that he studied. he kindly gave me terence's children's contact info so i could email them to ask if i could uh, broadcast their dead father's lectures on the radio. yeah, that'll be a dicey email...
